Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

At NY Ketamine Infusions, we’ve become a leader in the caring treatment of PTSD, and have had great success in alleviating many of its most severe symptoms in veterans, first responders and others.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD, is best known for affecting veterans, police officers, and firefighters, but millions of others who have experienced or witnessed traumatic events suffer from PTSD as well. Left untreated, PTSD can lead to intrusive recurring memories, avoidance, hopelessness, detachment from family and friends, severe depression and anxiety, and even suicidal thoughts and actions.

Did you know...

That PTSD can result from childhood Trauma?

Many of our depression and anxiety New York patients, and those suffering with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) are also dealing with PTSD. Most are survivors of childhood trauma which can arise from a variety of causes: abject poverty, physical, mental or sexual abuse, neglect, parental divorce, disabilities, and even bullying. These experiences result in extreme stress, anxiety, pain, and feelings of low self-worth, and they often morph into major depressive disorders (MDD) beginning as early as adolescence. The cause is a change in mood center structure or anatomy brought on by childhood stress. This can be difficult to repair.

Brain-Derived Neurotropic Factor (BDNF) is an important brain protein that is responsible for the maturation and maintenance of the neuronal dendrites and synapses that are necessary for normal brain connectivity. In order to maintain a normal mood, the neurons in various parts of your brain need to connect to each other via their dendrites and their synaptic contact. Childhood stress and anxiety inhibit the production of BDNF, leading to visible changes in neuroanatomy and subsequent serious mood disorders such as MDD, PTSD, OCD, and anxiety.
